Alanis’ recent cover of Donovan’s 1966 song for the spooky new show Yaga, premiering October 23rd on AMC+ and Crave. Donovan recorded “Season of the Witch” in May 1966 at Columbia (CBS) Studios in Hollywood, California? The song was part of his third album, Sunshine Superman, and was produced by Mickie Most. Donovan collaborated with Shawn Phillips and a small group of local session musicians to create a distinctive rock-combo sound that gave the track its unique atmosphere.

The session Musicians were:

Donovan – vocals and second guitar part

Lenny Matlin – keyboards

Don Brown – lead electric guitar

Bobby Ray – bass

“Fast” Eddie Hoh – drums

While people have speculated about Jimmy Page or John Paul Jones being involved in the recording process, official session notes do not list them, and Donovan never confirmed their involvement.
